Stadia Mania

Some of the stadia picked for England’s 2018 bid came as a surprise, so here at TheGoldenBoot, we’ve got all the info we could on the lesser known tinpot stadiums the likes of Messi and Fabregas may be running out at.

Ashton Vale

This is one of the computer generated images for how the new Bristol City stadium will look.

Although this stadium looks fairly small, the capacity will be at least 30,000, with officials now considering expanding the plans to meet its maximum potential of 42,000.

New Home Park

Plymouth Argyle have won the right to host a number of group games, although the current stadium holds around 20,000 the club now have 9 years to raise the funds and build their new 40,000 seater ground. This could be one for the Eastern European teams as I know for a fact that Plymouth is on of the few places in modern England where the mullet is still fashionable.

New Nottingham Forest Ground

Among the Championship grounds is the new development for Notts Forest. This may be one of the more spectacular looking mock ups and from the outside it looks more like a semi-precious jewel.

This ground will hold almost 50,000 and although the trend for naming rights is on the up, many fans want the ground to be named after former manager Brian Clough who brought the club 2 European Cups. As the stadium will be opened in 2014 it will be positively old skool by the time the tournament comes around.

Stadium:mk (no seriously with a fucking colon and small letters for initials)

If, like me, you thought MK Dons were still playing on a Hockey pitch you have been made to look a right mug by this rather impressive stadium (for League One).

Currently the capacity of the stadium is 22,000, however there is a top-tier going unused which would increase seating to 32,000 and the club have the option to build upwards to reach the 42,000 mark. Plus, something tells me the world-class superstars on show will definitely up for a trip to the bright lights of Milton Keynes.

New White Hart Lane/Olympic Stadium

Set to fight it out for the last London-based spot, these two new builds will provide another great stadium.

Let us start with the best looking and face it, slightly arousing effort from Spurs. Contrary to the image, the stadium will not be named ‘The Naming Rights Stadium’.

And follow it up with this frankly pitiful effort which will most likely be unfinished.

This essentially looks like a biscuit tin with the lid off.

On top of these, the following won as well;

Old Trafford, Anfield/New Anfield, Stadium of Light, Villa Park, sportsdirect.com@St James’ Park (catchy), Elland Road, City of Manchester Stadium, Emirates, Hillsborough, New Wembley.

Due to the need for a good geographical spread, some big names missed out however;

Riverside, Stamford Bridge, Reebok Stadium, St Mary’s, Pride Park, Walker’s Stadium
